...it looks like a technical withdrawl, on the grounds of insufficient provision for affordable housing?
was hoping for a moral / environmental objection - this may be just a delay whilst the developers get their deplorable act together?

Looks like it Ric. I can't remember who was actually going to benefit from the affordable housing, though the figure of £80,000 towards it was mentioned somewhere I think. The withdrawal/postponement might also be due to the slump in the housing market.
