"entoptic phenomena"
i am sure this is an aspect of 'cave art', but hasn't cave art has also been found at the mouth of cave systems? There are pictures of 'entopic art' here, in Namibia, outdoors though

if abstract cave art is indeed entoptic/entopic, what might be the method:- deprivation of light, entopic sensations remembered, and then transferred to cave walls?

I thought the abstract art forms were a part of what is called entoptic
phenomena. That is, the shapes that the brain creates when one spends a
long time in the dark - sensory deprivation.
