how does this theory sit with the Stonehenge-Avon 'avenue', and the local cursus, please?
Can't really help you with that Ric - it simply occurred to me that the A303 and A344 roads may be very old and another facet of the ancient Stonehenge landscape that had hitherto been ignored. People naturally want to do something to get rid of the traffic problem around the monument and at first sight the roads seem to be the problem - actually it's what's on the roads that's the problem).
Any plan to 'enhance' Stonehenge for posterity, needs to consider the wider landscape context of this monument; not to do so, would be like trying to explain London in terms of its architecture alone, and ignoring the River Thames, i feel, with its teeming mercantile and symbolic references?
