Inspectorate Reference & Appeal Procedure
Dear Planning Inspectorate,
Regarding the proposed building of houses by Bybrook
Developments Ltd, 200 yards/metres from Avebury Henge,
World Heritage Site, on land presently occupied by a
petrol garage.
I note with consternation and confusion that, in
granting approval for this unwarranted development,
within a WHS site, Kennet District Council are in
violation of their own policy? to wit:
Policy HH3
AVEBURY WORLD HERITAGE SITE
Proposals which would harm the historic landscape,
archaeological
features or visual setting of that part of the
Stonehenge, Avebury and
Associated Sites World Heritage Site within the
District will not be
permitted.
That the siting of a modern development so close to
the Neolithic henge constitutes harm to the historic
landscape and visual setting of Avebury, cannot
seriously be doubted.
I therefore ask you earnestly to stop this development
immediately, please. By all means, the semi-derelict
garage may be cleared away, and the land
re-landscaped, but Avebury has suffered enough with
building work encroaching on the ancient site we do
not need any more modern buildings, effectively
wrecking the ambience of this unique monument.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
etc (London)
