Planning laws and Avebury

Hi Ric, I am going to reply in slightly negative terms here, it seems that no matter how much legislation and fine words are written, when it comes to the crunch political expediency seems to win.
For instance Tara, this from the UN Charter Agenda 21; for the principal of sustainable development law which the Irish government are signed up to....
""works of man or the combined works of nature and of man, and areas including archaeological sites which are of outstanding universal value from the historical, aesthetic, ethnological or anthropological points of view".
And yet the Irish government still go ahead when clearly they are contravening such laws.
This latest headline regarding the development around Bath.....
HERITAGE IS 'NO BARRIER TO AREA'S DEVELOPMENT' that from Hazel Blears; and not forgetting the new planning laws that are coming into existence in the near future for the prospective development of new house build in the south plus nuclear energy sites.
So stopping the building of 5 houses on the outskirts of Avebury, plus any future development nearby is not a great priority on our government's plate, the only way forward of stopping 'new build' within the Avebury complex is sometimes 'direct action' ;) if the various organisations set up to protect the rights of heritage fail to do so...
