How about making the developers pay for a 'sweetner' type scheme as a condition of getting consent. They should be required to pay for Ric's long cherished scheme to re-erecting some of the buried stones.

Well, seems they have already got the consent they need Andy, and there's little doubt in my mind that this is only the first phase of a building program - the next phase being the conversion of the caravan park into 'affordable houses' thereby creating a small housing estate at the very edge of the Avebury World Heritage Site. And although I have some sympathy with the residents in the caravan park who probably want to improve their accommodation, this development is just too close to the Henge (I think in EH's own words it's only 200 metres away). 

Probably the whole key to this is the owner of the land that the garage and caravan park belongs to; whoever that is they're sitting on a goldmine, and I doubt if heritage or restoration is utmost in their mind.
