i was just wondering if Eric might be able to exert some gentle leverage on the powers-that-be at EH, to stop this mindless and irreverent treatment of a dearly loved landmark, which is also his property, i understand?

It wouldn't hurt to drop him an email Ric - as you know he was dead against English Heritage's idea of a time capsule in Silbury and his letter in the Guardian, as well as the support of individuals such as yourself and organizations like Heritage Action, managed to get that stopped. The use of plastic bags however is already underway (see the photos in English Heritage's Update 26 here http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/server/show/nav.17511 ) Perhaps what he and others can do is bring the issue to the attention of the public so that similar mistake are not made in the future.
