In the meantime the Trustees are looking at the proposals in depth, seeking expert advice and drawing up proposals should we need to mount a counter campaign - more when we know more...
I'm sure most folks here will support your campaign Karin. Personally I can't see that the road could be widened without causing real damage to the Rollright complex. If the road were to be widened towards the circle it couldn't be done without cutting down some or all of the trees that skirt the road, and that wouldn't only destroy the ambience of the circle it would bringing the road perilously close to the stones. Equally, any widening on the other side would bring of the road closer to the King Stone. For anyone not familiar with the Rollright complex there's a photo of the circle, King Stone and road here - http://pastscape.english-heritage.org.uk/hob.aspx?hob_id=332813 Clicking on the Read more about this photograph link at the bottom of the photo, and then on the magnifying glass, will bring up a close-up of the road, the circle and the King Stone (King Stone on the left).
And it's not only the Stones themselves that would be under threat from increased traffic, the lichens growing on them are reported to be the oldest in the country - 400-800 years old! Photos of them here - http://www.heritageaction.org/?page=theheritagejournal&id=76 and here http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/605689
