Indeed, a comet entering the atmosphere would have had a spectacular 
effect, visible from far and wide. Quite different from a comet just 
flying by in space, which many of us have seen in recent years. See

does go some way to explaining the climate change that seems to have 
happened at "the end of the Neolithic/Early Bronze Age".

It does not explain all rock art designs though .... so the magic and 
mystery can remain.
