Take a look at FastStone Resizer - http://www.faststone.org/FSResizerDetail.htm 

Resizes (if required) and converts betwen formats. Nice and light, freeware and runs off a USB key if required.

Ey up everyone

Any ideas how I can batch convert 80 or so files from jpeg to tif extension?

I've got photos I need to change to send to publisher tomorrow for my 
first book, published in October. There's a whole chapter and more 
relating to prehistory so I'd say it's on topic!

I've already got:

The Gimp
Nikon View
Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0
Adobe Photodeluxe 2
Google Picasa

if any help.

Also, what's the address for the chat list these days?
