I just wanted to pass on my apologies for what seems to have been a
chunk of down time on the mailing list (lists!) over the last few days.
I flew out to Rome in the early hours of Sunday morning, my first
ever visit to Rome and actually my first ever visit to anywhere
outside of the UK that isn't the USA. This was my sister's birthday
treat for me, I'll be hitting a significant landmark in a little less
than a month from now *cough* XL *cough*. So, my sister and I flew
out to Rome and less than 24 hours later I get a text from Linda
telling me that she can't browse the web or send email. I 'talked'
her through everything I could think of but she said that nothing
seemed to be working.
I think the bit that she missed was powering the router off and on -
I think she only did the WiFi gateway.
So, within an hour of getting home this afternoon I went over
everything, including resetting the router, and things do seem to be
up and running again.
Sods law that something like that should happen. I couldn't even get
a net connection while I was in Rome to try and connect to the router
remotely. Although I think that would have failed then it might have
prompted me to double check with Linda that the router had been reset
for sure. I guess I could well have found a net cafe, but I was only
there for 2.5 days and to be honest I wanted to spend my time out and
about looking at things rather than sat hunched over a keyboard.
So, my apologies for the outage and rest assured that I am not due to
leave the country again for a few months.
Kind Regards,
Chris
