[Stones] Before we were so rudely interrupted...

Hello everyone!
Well, it has been two weeks to the day since my mail server died on
me. I won't go into lots of explaining and painful stories about
recovering things (not at this time anyway). I'm just sorry that it
has taken two weeks to get to this point.
There has been a LOT of work going on behind the scenes, and there
will continue to be more :^)
I do need to thank lots of you for all your messages of support and
offers of help. It amazed me to find out just how much you were all
missing your fix of The Stones List. I'm not going to name names
here, I don't want to make you all blush! But THANK YOU - all your
support and help was so very much appreciated by me, and I hope it is
also appreciated by the subscribers to this list.
So yes, it's back - with a new domain name, nothing I could do to
salvage the old one after I rather hastily decided that the list was
dead and pulled my hosting contract.
Everything should be just about back to normal, you just need to re-
set up your email filters to move stuff sent to
stones at stoneslist.org.uk to a folder in your email client (or however
you deal with the mailing list messages at your end) and make sure
that you send messages to stones at stoneslist.org.uk for distribution
to the list.
The situation at the moment is that I am running the same software,
Mailman, all of the data in archives and subscriber settings and
things are all intact. Basically it's like I took a copy of the old
server just at the point it died and I've brought that back online -
but calling it a new name.
I will have some work to do on making sure that all of the links in
the archives work, and I have a LOT of work to do to make something
look good at www.stoneslist.org.uk - but at least it kinda works
right now. I will also need to get the FAQ updated. It will all happen!
So, I know you've all been very patient, please just a bit more
patience from you all for me to get all those little bits and pieces
sorted out. At least the mailing list is up and running again.
So too should be stones-chat, again with the proviso that you use
stones-chat at stoneslist.org.uk to send your messages to.
What I would like to say is that the way that things are running
right now is not really ideal. It works, but it's not really any more
secure than the old server was (well, maybe a little bit!). I am
working on something for a more secure future for the list, and more
will be revealed as things progress. Right now I just wanted to get
something back up and running and that would give me a bit more time
to play around with the New Improved Stones Mailing List going forwards.
Right, I'll stop blathering now. I just hope that some of you are
still out there, and that you have things to say after two weeks
without your Stones fix!
Once again - many apologies!
Kind Regards,
Chris
