the actual construction process of Silbury IS
fascinating - and important - just like excavating a
pharaoh's tomb, from which we can learn much; but the
ethical question of whether it is alright to open
someone's tomb remains ... i don't feel any argument
would be strong enough for anyone tunnelling into
Silbury, however: the remedial work is a silver lining
in an otherwise shameful catalogue of destruction at
the neolithic site: i don't believe anyone or anything
lies within Silbury: i think it is a stunning work of
amazing, three-dimensional, neolithic abstract
symbolism?

I see that English

:) - so ironic: Silbury 4000 years v. Atkinson' time
capsule of 40 odd years, already requiring restoration
...

inserting a date-stamped concrete lintel into the hill
was an act of supreme arrogance and disregard for the
engineering skills of the Avebury People which we
could not - on an equal footing - match today, i feel?

still waiting for the buried stones at Avebury to be
raised up or 'restored' - i have again written to EH
on this matter and received neither acknowledgement or
reply ...

i will not rest in this matter until every last buried
sarsen at Avebury is up and standing again - as the
Avebury People intended them to be seen.
