Many thanks, Littlestone.
I do have my ubiquitous NT membership card which will get me into the official car park FOC, it's just it being open I wonder about. The NT website tells you about changes to parking for certain vehicles, but not for the good ol' regular family car.
I intend arriving as close to 6am as possible.
I usually pass through the area with an entourage of disinterested wife and tired kids, and it's either been an August Sunday afternoon (not again, thankyou!) or peeing down with rain.
To be at Avebury minus familial obligations, in the dark, with full moon descending, sun rising, and almost certainty of good sunlight later on is just too good to miss :o)
Cheers,
Tim

Hi Tim.
I think the main car-park will
be open but you have to pay there. The small car-park on the High Street
(opposite the Henge Shop) has a sign saying it's for residents only but visitors
park there all the time (free of charge). There are a couple of spaces by
the church but they may be full being a Sunday. There's also a small lay-by at
the bottom of the Avenue - if you park there and walk up Waden Hill you'll be
rewarded with a spectacular view of Silbury.
Best place is probably the Red Lion;
last time I was there you had to pay the meter but it's very reasonable, and if
you buy something at the pub later you'll get the parking fee
reimbursed.
