We are allowed to have different points of view are we not Nancy?
You and Ric may believe that places and things like Avebury, Stonehenge and prehistoric wall paintings are art - I do not; that is a contemporary interpretation of them and irrelevant to their original function (whatever that was). Further more, not only do I not accept that megalithic structures and prehistoric paintings are art, I also think that to label them as such is dangerous - leading, as it has in the past, to misinterpretation and misunderstanding. The passage above from The Stonehenge Companion illustrates how just one structure from our past has been misinterpreted down the centuries, often with disastrous consequences.
Let's leave structures like Stonehenge and Avebury to speak for themselves shall we - at least until we are absolutely sure we know what they are trying to tell us.

PS Wishing you, Chris and everyone a bright and happy solstice :-)
