Thanks for that. I think I have done a few good things about looking 
after ancient sites over the years.

BTW I asked on the Council for British Archaeology list if anyone there 
thought any damage had been caused. None have so far said that any 
damage was caused at all. The most interesting said that the person 
sending the message doubted that any damage would have been done. He 
points out that the the Long Man one sees today is white painted 
concrete slabs over the original. He added that "As one of the 
thousandseach year who trek there and then walk right down it I would 
expect this stunt to have been no more damaging than the tourists".

Which is what I've been saying. So if the archaeologists don't know of 
any damage to the site what's the real problem?
