Sniping? Funny you should mention that.

The three examples of sniping on this thread are John O'Brian's one and only 'contribution' to it. Mark White's opening little rant (with no follow up arguments for or against the issue) and your, "I hope you noticed the title of the paper you read that in." The rest of us (including Andy who I respect but totally disagree with here) have discussed the issue rationally, using the facts at our disposal, and arguing our case along well established rules on the care and preservation of ancient monuments.
