Sorry, Andy, but for the life of me I can't see how changing a male hill figure of historical importance into a female hill figure for the sake of an ITV prog can ever be considered respectful - anymore than I can see changing an image of Christ or the Buddha into a female figure with boobies, or changing an image of the Virgin Mary into a bloke with a beard can ever be considered respectful. This is all playing with words - bottom line is the ITV stunt was an act of gross insensitivity towards many in the Pagan community (and outside it) for purely media attention and ratings.

'tis a funny thing about the British, we're only too keen to bend over backwards not to offend Hindus with a TB infected bull, Muslims with cartoons about their prophet, and Sikhs with a play they consider offensive, but drag our feet on defending those who believe they are following some of the original belief systems of these islands - sommat wrong somewhere.
