I have seen no evidence anywhere that people lying on the surface of the 
ground at the Long Man caused any damage. Do you have any?

If lying on the ground, or indeed walking over it, at ancient sites is 
damaging then no doubt everyone on this list will immediately stop 
visiting them...

Of course it was a stunt - and I still think that's what has got some 
people steamed up - but as others have said perhaps we all need to 
lighten up.
