A petition stating that this monument is in any way pagan is - imo -
misguided in that it gives the program a way of diverting attention away
from what they did onto the possible historicity or otherwise of the Long
Man.

Far better to concentrate entirely on the conservation/archaeological
aspects of the case, along with the 'people could be encouraged to copy this
behaviour' which are pretty much irrefutable.
