[Stones] Alan Garner's 'Thursbitch' megalithic landscape?

Champion, Tim!

this is cool: Garner also mentions Baldstone, and
thinks it has something to do with a 'bright god' or
something?

will be interested to hear what you make of Garner's
novel, in relation to this landscape? he interprets
Thursbitch as thrys-beck, demon's valley or Valley of
the Demon

i'm slightly critical of his heavy reliance on (the
accuracy of) Old English placenames because - as we
all know - standing stones have been around much
longer, and the original placing of monoliths would be
rather unlikely to mark a cultural negative ~ more
likely to assert something positive, like the position
of the sun or moon, at certain times of the year?

great link - thanks!

;)
