Eyup Ric

This is as close to being on my doorstep as things megalithic get. I
haven't yet read the Alan Garner books (shame on me), but have recently
collared two of them at a charity book sale recently, so next year...

There is one extant standing stone on that ridge between Shining and
Cat's Tors, and it's Foxlowe Edge; I visited last Summer and have pics here:

(I'm ShropshireTraveller)

There are a good number of standing stones slightly wider afield, E and
SE from Macc, some cross remains, and some spectacularly numenous
landscapes. The E Cheshire / W Derbyshire / N Staffordshire area is
brilliant, and worth spending time in. I could informedly effuse some
more, but have not the time at present! It's a landscape which gets 'in'
to you, and you can't get enough, and pine to get back to when you've
not been for a while.

Other stones - look up Minn End Lane, Bull Stones, Cleulow Cross, Murder
Stone, Bow Stones, Dipping Stone, Hawkhurst Head... Bridestones, Bosley
Cloud, Highwayman Stone, and more, just check the 'nearby' sites list at
the bottom of the Portal pages.

Landscapes - Lud's Church, Roaches, Doxey Pool, Ramshaw Rocks,
Bawdstone, Baldstone (both allegedly from Ba'al's stone), Blackmere
Pool, Hangingstone Rock (hope to have a picnic there next year ;o) ),

hope this helps a bit; I might be leading a walk in some of this
landscape next year; I'll shout on list if it comes up for cert.
Tentatively in April at the moment.

All the best

Tim
