The Stukeley evidence is very convincing, but the question must be asked why did the romans drive a road through Silbaby barrow, when on the whole they respected other barrows, and also inserted roman burials in the Overton barrows by the Sanctuary...

There is another possible explanation: The Roman's didn't actually cut through the barrow - they just filled in the space between the bottom of Waden Hill and the Great Bank (thereby creating a surface for their road).
