[Stones] JL Macadam - The Foe of Stonehenge

my old history teacher (is history still taught in schools?) once amused us - and himself - with the anecdote that one particular PM - Palmerston? - belatedly thanked Macadam for his road building technology, publicly, on behalf of a greatful nation, with the following words: "tar Mac!"
   
  i don't know if this is a true story, however?
