Well, sorry folks. I'm having problems explaining this one.
I thought it had been a bit quiet over the last few days. The really
odd part is that I had been getting mail coming through to my own
mailboxes just as normal. I checked the server, everything was up and
running - 'just quiet' I thought.
And then Andy sent me a mail tonight saying he'd not seen anything
for a while... so I went and had another look at the server. Humm,
all okay, all services up and responding as far as I can tell. Ah
well - might as well try a reboot I guess....
...And then everything flooded through!
I really am at a loss to explain this one. I'm sure I can go looking
at various logs, but as I said, everything was up and seemed to be
responding. The two main bits of the system are Postfix and Mailman.
Postfix was certainly up and running as normal, it was only list mail
that seemed to be affected. So I think it must have been Mailman
barfing over something, but it was certainly up and running and
responding to my commands when I tested things.
Humm... this is all sounding too 'Windows' for my liking - rebooting
just magically fixing things. I'll trawl the logs and see if I can
find *something* in there.
And my deep and humble apologies for the outage!
Chris
