[Stones] A penny for your thoughts?

heard of one about the size of a grapefruit crashing through the roof  
and first floor of a house in new jersey (usa) many many moons ago -  
bounced off the settee, which i recall the story reporting had just  
been vacated during a commercial break on the telly...

the point at which i watched one pass between myself and the other  
side of a shallow valley a quarter mile distant - the third,  
increasingly close encounter in the space of several months - was  
when i ceased wishing to witness one actually splash down in order to  
retrieve it

i mean, documented or not, i find the prospect of death by heavenly  
stoning somehow lacking in appeal - not that i'm likely to do, or  
deserve, better

understand meteorites were much valued in stone age societies - being  
a rockhound, i've always fancied having one as well
