Krista,
I apologise: I made a dig concerning your use of English in my post which I think, now,
was unwarranted.
Oh, indeed, they were never put there as a child's playground; children, of their own
nature will play anywhere, though.
The stones will outlive any Built-for-children playground, though!
If the sites were built for occasional use then unless they were due to be brought into
commission, I doubt anyone would care very much what went on.
I have known Priests who would join in games of hide&seek behind the gravestones with
children: "Why let them be afraid of the dead?" I've also known Vergers who would chase us
out..
I would love to hop in my car and go back in time to when I first saw Stonhenge.. or
anywhere in Great Britain. Lewis? Wasn't he Bergerac's side-kick?

I have 3 children who are allowed to play, but all have been brought up with respect for
irriplaceable sites which are there for everyone to come and see and enjoy and contemplate
what they were origionally put there for.....which i believe was NOT a childrens
playground. Therefore i don't believe that children playing ON the stones was the job they
were intended for, playgrounds are built to last for children to play on.
There are plenty of stones around the site they could climb and jump on, as my own
children are allowed to do.
I'm sure children wern't barred from these sites when they were built but i bet they were
taught to treat them with respect.
I am not laying down the law, but can you tell me why people who have travelled the very
long distances to come to Calanais should have to see this? For some it is a trip they
won't make again....it's not like just hopping in your car and going to Stonehenge to get
here, it can be a very long, hard and expensive journey to get here.
I don't want to see the stones fenced in or under glass, but i would like for future
generations to be able to see them too.
Krista
