[Stones] A penny for your thoughts?

Negative attention? People bleat on about Thatcherite T politcs and expect to be taken
seriously? The C.N.D. will have a team on standby over its grave conducting a watching
brief, next.
My perception of AMs is quite healthy, thanks.
I am also very well aware that sites will decay over time or be lost altogether, without
human intervention.
Perhaps the site referred to in the original post is more vulnerable than I presumed: if
so, then I apologise for my comments re: children.
My intended point in the context was that children are the least likely to do damage but
best able to obtain (perhaps subliminally) a sense of a site.
Out of pure interest, and in the search for knowledge, your Institute seems now to be
part of ICON? No Fellowships are mentioned there. No, that isn't meant as any form of
attack. Normally, one is elected as a Fellow, and all I would like to know is whether (as
has happened with other disciplines) you have suffered a sea-change.
To have been elected such in any organisation reflects highly upon you.

I'm not sure if John Germain's post is merely to attract negative attention or whether he
is trying to justify a rather warped perception of what ancient monuments are, and how
they should be treated.
Jerry in his comment that it was, "...very unlikely that they would have been allowed to
interfere with a sacred site in a disrespectful manner." highlights the respect these
sites should still be given, and Paul in his comment that, "...coins jammed in to crevices
contribute to the crevices becoming bigger and bigger (this also aids the freeze/thaw
process - when water freezes its volume increases by 9% which forces the surrounding
material apart) and eventually the stone cleaves." eloquently describes the damage that
seemingly innocent and trivial acts can produce.
As for John's Germain's question, "You might be getting your knickers in a collective
twist, but exactly who are you to lay down the law?"
I can't speak for everyone on this List but I don't think any of us are 'getting our
knickers in a twist'. Most of us here are concerned for our heritage, both natural and
manmade, and object to seeing it damaged.
