The problem may stem from a too rigourous outlook as to what makes a religious site today.  For instance, a church is an enclosed  and roofed space and has defined paraphenalia within this space, tombs, altar, seating etc, not forgetting that they were probably garishly painted as well.. a stone circle or longbarrow is open to the elements and therefore an "offering" assaults the eye as not being in the right place.Therefore following this tentative argument, the church has rules for belief, the stone circle has none - who therefore makes the rules between spiritual modern beliefs and secular enjoyment of the circle Nigel...
