Further to Rich's comments re the Uists, if you can spare the 
time/money/energy for an additional ferry crossing to North Uist from 
Tarbert, go see Hougharry - north west corner of the island. It looks to 
me to be an asteroid/meteorite impact crater, being a circular lagoon 
only a few feet deep in the centre yet half a mile or more across and 
surrounded by pure white sand. It is open to the sea on one side, and is 
filled by the tide, resulting in beautiful turquoise-green water. It is 
a magical place. If you can't get to N Uist, don't miss Hushinish on the 
west of Lewis/Harris.
