Agree with your comments.
It's all rush, rush, rush.  No time to think, to wonder.  Just another place 
to be ticked off the list.
I've been to Stonehenge a few times.  The last time I was there on an 
archaeological field trip and a group of us  walked up to the barrows and 
looked for the remains of the Cursus,  then walked up the Avenue towards 
Stonehenge.
This gives you a completely different perspective on things.  Much more 
leisurely, much more time to take things in.
Some people just want things handed to them on a plate.
