Ay, that's true, they'd be a weird bunch if they didn't fancy the lass down the lane or the lass didn't fancy the Earl's youngest son. Children born in and out of wedlock between the two peoples would have sat on their mother's knee and heard tales and songs of the old times - no doubt spoken to them in the old language. The whole thing's very similar to the Anglo-Saxon/Norman relationship.
