hi,
if you care to contact me off-list, i will give you what i have
of course i accept your comments in terms of widening the Stones debate - if felt to be relevant by one and all? - it's just that i think the media are generating a storm in a tea cup over this scientific research; Mark Thomas has kindly sent me material which covers several sides of this debate, it makes interesting reading, and the papers certainly seem to be at odds with one another over this 'controversial' and 'inconclusive' subject - and probably always will be?
incidentally, returning to Stones (well, earthworks actually), i am incredulous that there is so little known about the enormous 'Wansdyke', which stradles several counties, and is also perhaps relevant to the debate, being of Roman or post-Roman date?
thanks,
ric

ric, if we were to check with every author the accuracy of reports on their work little would get posted on these forums at all. The research in question was reported on BBC Radio 4 News yesterday (a source I generally trust) and then followed to the link above. As the link actually places Mark Thomas' words in quotation marks he has grounds to complain (and perhaps should do so) if he has been misquoted.
As you seem to have been in contact with Mark Thomas (though you don't actually mention his name) perhaps you could save us all a lot of time by posting his full reply to you rather than the paraphrased and edited (your words) version that you use above - I'm sure you will agree that edited versions of reports can sometimes be as misleading as inaccurate ones.
Best wishes.
