i know this is a perennial hobby horse of mine - but when you think what archaeology and knowledge of the past stand to gain from carefully excavating and repositioning these stones - it is nothing short of a national scandal that this half-buried neolithic wonder in the West Country is consistently neglected by its official establishment guardians, who literally sit on it, year in, year out, for over half a century now. what justification can there be for denying knowledge? what justification can there be for denying world heritage to the world?

  Littlestone - Absolutely again!
Absolutely yet again! What a marvellous thought. There's a poem in there somewhere.

Anyhow, the other great thing about it is that accessing that mute message might not be a remote goal, arrived at after donkey's years of trying to persuade the authorities, it might be right in our own hands.... How ruddy intriguing is that?!
