I said that the Avebury head reminded me of an Easter Island image, but
sceptics kept muttering simulucra at me. But I would argue that there are
three important stone circles within 30 kms of each other, Avebury,
Stonehenge and Stanton Drew, all of which have been designed in a creative
manner by their makers. For Avebury the tribe elders would have walked the
length of the sarsen outcrops and chosen particular stones to represent some
aspect of their culture. Stones dragged for some considerable distance
would have to have something special about them, its human nature to be
creative.
As for "screaming" heads Littlestone, theres a Canadian poet who has written
a poem/prose about Bladud(founding father of Bath so the myth goes) its
about Bladud's friend, who has his head cut off, and then resides in a pond
endlessly talking, until one day, everyone gets tired of him and he is
unceremoniosly squished.... ;)
